Materials needed before installing Kali Linux:
- Please download Kali Linux by visiting the official website here: Kali.org/downloads .
- For bootable software, we suggest you use Etcher: Download Etcher here .
- Finally, provide a flash drive of at least 8GB size as we mentioned earlier.

- Plug the Flashdisk into your computer’s USB port then open the Etcher software
- After Etcher is open, click on the Flash from file section then enter the Kali Linux ISO that you downloaded earlier.
- Next, click on the Select target section then check your USB flash drive and click Select (1) .
- Finally, Click Flash! then wait until the Kali Linux bootable is finished.

1. Boot Kali Linux
The first step in installing kali linux is to enter the computer’s BIOS menu by restarting your computer, when the boot process is running (your computer / laptop brand logo appears) immediately press the ESC or F2 / F10 key .

Click Continue to continue.
4. Choose a Geographical Location
Specify your location, because our location is not available here. So, we will set the location in United States.
5. Keyboard Configuration
Next you need to choose a keyboard layout, you are free to choose anything. But we recommend choosing ” American English “. So leave the default at the very top.
Click Continue to continue and wait a while for the network interface to be scanned as well as the DHCP service.
6. Fill in Your Hostname
After that, you need to enter your hostname, In this tutorial we enter the hostname as “Kali”
7. Fill in the Domain Name
Optionally, Here you can specify the default domain name to be used by your system, or it can be left blank.

8. Set User and Password
Then, you need to create a user account for the system. by entering your Full Name, Username, and Password .
Full Name : This is used for example as the default for emails sent by this user as well as any program that displays or uses the user’s real name.
Username : Username must start with a lowercase letter, which can be followed by a combination of numbers and other lowercase letters.
Password ( Password ): Enter your password, you are free to enter any password. However, we recommend entering a password that contains a mix of letters, numbers, and punctuation.
9. Set Your Timezone
Next, select your time zone. Its task is to set the time and date on your Kali Linux. In this tutorial, we chose the default timezone which is Eastern .
10. Set Up Hard Disk Partition For Kali Linux
Well, at this stage you will be provided with 4 options to manage your Kali Linux partition.
If you want to set the partition manually . Please select Manual -> Then, you need to create a partition for ” swap area “, and also a partition for ” Ext4 “.
And If you Install Kali Linux VirtualBox, we recommend that you choose:
Guided – use entire disk -> then on the next page you select the disk to be partitioned. then just click Continue.

Then there’s a last chance to check the disk configuration before you make any irreversible changes, select Yes and click Continue to continue.

11. Select Desktop Environment and Kali Linux Tool
Next, Put a check mark on one of the Desktop Environments you like (Xfce, GNOME or KDE Plasma). you are free to choose anything. You can also choose all of them if you want.
In this tutorial we will choose the Xfce Desktop Environment . Therefore we will check only for Xfce only.
And if you want to add all Kali Linux tools, put a check mark on:

- Recommended tools
- Default selection plus additional tools
- Vice versa, uncheck if you only want to have certain tools.
Click Continue to continue.
12. Install Kali Linux Grub Boot Loader
Next, after you wait for the installation process, information about the Boot Loader will appear, select Yes to install it.
On the next page you will be given the option to select the Grub Boot Loader Installation Hard Disk. you can select /dev/sda and immediately click Continue.
13. Kali Linux Installation Complete
After the installation process is complete, you will see the ” Installation complete ” screen. means that your new kali linux installation has been successful.
Then click Continue then Kali Linux will restart automatically, and you will be directed to the Linux Grub screen. Select Kali GNU/Linux then press Enter .
14. Login Kali Linux
Now that you are at the Kali Linux login screen, you can start using Kali Linux by entering the username and password you created earlier.
